About Relaxation Massage Therapy

Massage is one of the oldest healing traditions with its use tracing back to many cultures, including the Ancient Greeks and Egyptians and formed part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Aruveydic Medicine.

Using a blend of high quality, certified organic coconut oil and essential oils blends, Sarah utilizes Swedish Massage techniques which involves the use of hands to manipulate soft tissue in order to ease muscle tension and increase flexibility, decrease the level of muscle toxins, improve circulation, increase the level of oxygen in the blood and promote total relaxation of the mind and body.

Modern studies have shown that relaxation massage therapy has been beneficial in treating a broad range of conditions including chronic stress, anxiety, back or neck pain, depression, headaches, high blood pressure and insomnia. One of the benefits of massage is is that it helps to soothe the nervous system. This occurs because massage encourages the release of “feel good” chemicals known as endorphins that produce feelings of calm and wellbeing. Massage is also effective at reducing the release of stress hormones such as adrenalin, noradrenalin and cortisol. Studies have shown that chronically elevated levels of cortisol can impair metabolism, cognitive performance, memory retention and suppress the immune system. Furthermore, elevated cortisol can drive sugar cravings, amplify anxiety, create sleep disturbances and compromise the immune system - making us more vulnerable to falling ill.

One of the main reasons why Sarah loves to utilise massage therapy in improving her client outcomes is due to its ability to enhance interoceptive awareness - an awareness of one's inner body sensations. By helping her clients to tune into themselves and observe their physical and emotional sensations, the greater awareness they have of their own internal body cues that relate to imbalance, discomfort and distress. Sarah loves to support others in facilitating their own self care, emotional regulation and healing.
